Aurelia means gilded, the golden one.

This piece is rooted in kintsugi, the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold. Applied to the body, the cracks become a record of endurance. Chronic pain. Damage. The places where the body broke and kept going anyway. It is a refusal to disappear.

Aurelia stands altered but still here. The damage did not ruin her. It made her unmistakable. The gold is not decoration.

I refuse to make it pretty. To act like all is well. To hide the ugly bits.
