Beatrice

Beatrice came from the feeling of being alive on the inside but trapped in a body that isn’t working the way it should. There are days when my chronic pain makes me feel hollowed out, like something vital in me is buried deep while the outside feels heavy, tired, or even a little dead. I wanted to show that tension, the parts of ourselves that keep traveling, hoping, and feeling, even when the body can’t keep up.

The name Beatrice means voyager, traveler, and bringer of joy, which felt right for the small, bright pieces of me still trying to move forward. The hummingbird represents joy, resilience, and the ability to find beauty in small moments, even in difficult times. The crow brings in themes of transformation and mystery, a reminder that endings, stagnation, and death-like stillness can also carry messages, shifts, and beginnings.

The emerald eye hints at renewal and growth, something still alive and watching from within. The roses, vines, beetles, fireflies, and fungus symbolize the life that keeps going even in decay.

Beatrice is about that strange coexistence: feeling worn down by the body you inhabit, yet still filled with life, curiosity, and the small sparks of a self that refuse to disappear.
