Maren
Maren
Maren grew out of my head injury and the long, complicated healing that followed. The red ribbons all begin at the scar, but they are not meant to resemble blood. I was thinking of the red ribbons tied to sacred trees in Korea, where people write wishes and prayers for health, protection, and guidance. After my injury, it felt as if every hope I had for the future became tied to that single point, as if all my wishes were now bound to the place where I had been hurt.
The figure floats in water, suspended in a quiet acceptance. The lily pads represent moments of calm and the possibility of healing. The small frog skeletons drifting around her echo the parts of life that were changed or lost in the aftermath. The red ribbons reach outward like thoughts or memories, touching everything the injury reshaped.
