Yena
Yena was created during a time when I was searching for ways to live with chronic pain and the exhaustion of ongoing health issues. I built this piece around the ribcage, spine, and pelvis — the parts of the body that hold us up, even when they hurt, even when we feel fragile. Surrounding them, I chose flowers and natural elements known for their healing and calming properties, hoping to create a kind of quiet offering to my own body.
Honey and the bees who make it represent nourishment and the slow, patient work of recovery. Lion’s mane, long used in traditional medicine for inflammation, speaks to the hope that repair is still possible. Dandelions remind me of resilience, the way they grow anywhere, against anything, carrying wishes in their seeds. Calendula and aloe bring comfort and care; they soothe, mend, and soften what has been worn down. And lavender, with its associations of rest, ease, and breath, felt like a reminder to slow down and listen to what my body has been trying to say.
Yena became a small tribute to my own body: a reminder to treat it with the same care and gentleness I offer others, and to recognize the quiet strength it carries, even on the hardest days.
